Have you ever done the carbon footprint calculator? It can be disconcerting. In this day of environmental awareness, reducing the carbon footprint seems to be on everyone’s mind. So what is it and how can you reduce it without becoming a hermit living off the land in a cave?
The clearest definition we could find is; “Your carbon footprint is the sum of all emissions of CO2 (carbon dioxide), which is induced by your activities in a given time frame.” In other words, it is the result of your daily living activities and their effect on the environment. People are typically surprised at all the effects that seemingly innocent activities can have on the environment. We all expect the driving of our vehicles to affect it, but buying groceries? Of course the act of buying groceries is not the problem, but the processes that were used to produce the groceries that you buy, may certainly be.
So what is an environmentally conscious person to do?
The first thing most people do is to try and reduce the amount of driving a car, either by combining stops and/or carpooling. It is an easy first fix. Either by carpooling or using public transportation where available, people are able to reduce their carbon footprint by limiting their driving and thus the emissions from their vehicles. Likewise, by combining trips and stops, people can reduce driving time.
Another way to reduce the carbon footprint is to use paper products instead of plastic when possible, as these will be more easily recyclable and thus reduce our landfills where CO2 is produced in amazing quantities.
The method we, at Cartridge World, want to point out is the use of recycled printer cartridges. By refilling your printer cartridges and buying recycled printer cartridges you are reducing the amount of waste that goes into the landfills. Did you know that it takes one gallon of oil to make a new toner cartridge? Or that every re-manufactured or refilled toner cartridge saves nearly 2.5 pounds of metal and plastic waste from being dumped in landfills?1
